Ginger Zee is the first ever female chief meteorologist at a major network. She reports the nation’s weather for “Good Morning America” and is also the managing editor of the climate unit at ABC News (you’ve also seen her on Dancing with the Stars). She’s chased her fair share of weather events through the years- hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and wildfires. But it was weathering a more personal storm that took her on a journey of self discovery. Ginger wrote openly about her mental health struggles in her first memoir ‘Natural Disaster’ revealing that after getting her dream job at ABC she checked herself into a mental health hospital. But Ginger says ‘Natural Disaster’ barely scratched the surface.  In her follow up memoir - ‘A Little Closer to Home’ Ginger is digging even deeper and telling us all about finding ‘the calm after the storm.’ We discuss:

  • Why landing her dream job at Good Morning America pushed her to check into a mental health hospital.
  • With all of the mental health struggles catalyzed by the pandemic- where does the mental health conversation need to go? How technology can help!
  • How she thinks about the word ‘NO’ and people pleasing
  • Processing trauma: “you can't delete trauma, you have to process it so that it does not cause stress for the rest of your life.
  • Her simple reframe to really grasp the lifetime care for your mental health
